BIOSOURCED, LOW CARBON AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY SOLUTIONS
To take concrete action on the climate emergency, Avril is dedicated to producing biosourced solutions to replace fossil resources and to develop the circular economy.
INNOVATING FOR THE BIOECONOMY
Avril uses its innovation capacity to develop biosourced solutions to help solve the carbon equation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These solutions, which include renewable energies and plant chemistry, offer an alternative to fossil products in many areas of application: food ingredients, biosourced molecules, etc.

VEGETABLE OILS TO DECARBONIZE TRANSPORT
100% plant-based, 100% renewable and 100% French, Oleo100 is a new form of energy from rapeseed which replaces diesel, at equivalent performance and cost. This B100 fuel is produced by Saipol, a subsidiary of Avril. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 60%. It is also an energy source that comes from French agriculture that promotes the rapeseed sector as a complement to food production for humans and animals.
Easy to use in captive fleets, Oleo100 asserts its growing position as a virtuous alternative energy in the French energy mix. Since 2018, it has convinced players in the road transport of goods and people, local authorities, waste collection operators and even river transport.
Key figures:
- With Oleo100, a 60% reduction in GHG emissions compared to fossil fuel
- Up to 80% reduction in fine and ultrafine particle emissions
- Nearly 13,000 trucks running on Oleo100 in 2023
FOR PLANT CHEMISTRY COMBINING PERFORMANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY
As with biofuels, plant-based chemistry is an alternative to petroleum-based products. At Avril, proteochemistry and oleochemistry activities offer sustainable ingredients from renewable raw materials that are more respectful of human health and the environment.
Oleon, European leader and subsidiary of Avril, designs and produces molecules and ingredients from vegetable oils and animal fats, which are marketed to a wide range of sectors (food, hygiene, cleaning products, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, plastics and rubber, paints and coatings, etc.).
Oleon thus meets the increasingly stringent requirements of markets in terms of naturalness and performance, but also the carbon neutrality objectives of its customers and Avril.
REVOLUTIONIZE ADHESIVES FROM PLANTS
Consumers are increasingly aware of the health and environmental impacts of “Volatile Organic Compounds” (VOC), such as formaldehyde. These compounds are present in many everyday products such as resins, glues, paints and some materials.
In 2016, Avril teamed up with Bpifrance to create Evertree. The ambition is set for this start up: to give the composite wood sector the means to make the transition to plant-based products. Today, it offers plant-based alternatives to petroleum-based adhesives, often with better performance than conventional compounds. The first industrial application of this cutting-edge research is the development of formaldehyde-free composite wood panels, offering manufacturers and consumers an ecological, health, technological and economic benefit.
2021: Launch of the world-first biosourced composite wood panel, MDF Green by Evertree, in collaboration with French manufacturer “Panneaux de Corrèze”.
