What is the Avril Foundation's role?

What is the Avril Foundation’s role?

A government recognized public-interest organization since the end of 2014, the Avril Foundation carries out public service missions in rural areas in France and Africa. In France, it supports the agricultural transition towards models generating economic, social, and environmental value. The Foundation works throughout the country to promote healthy, sustainable food for all. For example, the Avril Foundation has been supporting the Apiluz project since 2021. This project, developed in partnership with farmers, beekeepers, and cooperatives, consists of allowing rows of alfalfa to bloom in order to ensure pollinators can obtain sufficient food during the dearth period in June and July.

In Africa, the Foundation supports the development of agro-ecological sectors and initiatives promoting cultivated biodiversity and soil preservation. In 2021, for instance, the Avril Foundation started the “Biodiversity and Proteins” project in southern Togo. The aim is to expand the use of forgotten legumes in order to provide the population with local proteins, while at the same time setting up efficient processing and marketing channels.
