Sofiprotéol, an innovation facilitator for the competitiveness of the agricultural and food industry sectors
To achieve this, FASO’s strategic plan focuses on four innovation themes that address the major challenges facing both the industry and society as a whole.
Protein sovereignty
In terms of protein sovereignty, projects focus in particular on the development of rapeseed, sunflower, pea, soybean and linseed varieties adapted to the needs of a more protein-rich animal feed, on the fertilization of rapeseed to modulate its protein content and quality, and on improving the protein autonomy of livestock farms (prospective studies and field demonstrators to identify the contribution of French oil-protein crops to improving protein autonomy in livestock farming).
Agro-ecological transition
In terms of agro-ecological transition, priority is given to the development of rapeseed, sunflower and legume varieties that are more resistant to disease and pests, thereby limiting the use of chemical inputs and improving crop competitiveness. The development of innovative biocontrol approaches to combat rapeseed insects is also a major priority. The use of biostimulation and innovative digital tools to meet climatic challenges also remains a key area of support.
Food transition
In view of the world’s growing population and new consumer trends in favor of a more plant-based diet, FASO supports innovation projects to accompany the food transition. In particular, FASO carries out forward-looking studies and trend analyses to help industry players identify market expectations and the value potential of oils and proteins.
The energy transition
Finally, projects focused on the energy transition include biofuels, through support for the certification of vehicles running on B100 (a 100% renewable biofuel produced from rapeseed), and the construction of a second-generation biofuel demonstrator.
